Meeting Apprentices at Key Housing, Saltcoats

Apprenticeships are fundamental to a growing Scottish economy.

Therefore, every year I mark Scottish Apprenticeship Week by visiting a local employer in my constituency and meeting apprentices to talk about their experiences.

Scottish Apprenticeship Week is a nationwide celebration of apprenticeships organised by Skills Development Scotland.

A time to highlight the benefits work-based learning brings to people, employers, and the wider economy.

This morning, I visited Key Housing Association in Saltcoats, a Registered Social Landlord providing housing to adults and young people who have disabilities and - often - long-term complex needs.

They have 714 properties across 15 local authority areas, including Park View in Ardrossan and also support people in their own homes.

I enjoyed discussing their apprenticeship programmes with Key Housing’s Support and Development Manager Ashley Gorman as well as their modern apprentices Bobbi, Leeann (pictured) and Davey.

A Modern Apprenticeship is a job which lets people earn a wage and gain an industry-recognised qualification.

The three apprentices demonstrated that apprenticeships can be undertaken from people of all ages and from all walks of life.
