Minimising Ferry Disruptions for Arran and Cumbrae through Resilience Funding

The introduction of Road Equivalent Tariff for Arran and Cumbrae in 2014 reduced car ferry fares by 57%, leading to record numbers of visitors to these islands and boosting their economies. An additional ferry now sails the Ardrossan to Brodick route for seven months, which has greatly increased capacity relative to when the SNP Government came into office.

On Thursday in the Chamber, Kenneth asked the Tourism Secretary, Fiona Hyslop MSP, about minimising ferry disruptions which islanders fear may happen throughout the summer season.

In her reply, the Cabinet Secretary referred to the £4 million resilience fund that the SNP Government established in 2018, to invest in services to ensure the future reliability and availability of vessels.
