On Thursday, Kenneth participated in a Scottish Government debate on “A Fairer Scotland for Disabled People”, its delivery plan to 2021 for the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The delivery plan sets out 93 actions to be progressed by 2021 in order to realise our long-term ambitions for guaranteeing the greater inclusion of disabled people in Scotland, which include halving the disability employment gap.
The employment rate among disabled people is currently 42.8%, compared to 80.2% among non-disabled people. Kenneth outlined the multi-faceted approach the SNP Government is taking to supporting disabled people into employment and also the action it has taken to mitigate Tory Government austerity, which is punitive towards disabled people.
