Applications are now open for the 2019/20 Catalysts for Change funding programme.
The programme is delivered by the Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland (QNIS), in partnership with The National Lottery Community Fund. It provides grants of up to £5,000 to help community nurses in Scotland and their local partners explore short-term initiatives that prevent, reduce or overcome health inequities.
For the 2019/20 round, the National Lottery Community Fund has contributed £160,000 to increase delivery across Scotland.
Catalysts for Change projects should focus on either the prevention and mitigation of the impact of psychological trauma (toxic stress) or the wider remit of tackling other health-related inequalities.
All projects should be led by community nurses and be fundamentally about working in close collaboration with individuals, families and local organisations to find new ways to tackle the physical and mental health issues adversely affecting them.
QNIS has previously run three rounds of its Catalysts for Change programme, supporting a range of projects across Scotland to improve people’s health and wellbeing.
In 2017, QNIS funded the Valuing Breastfeeding project in North Ayrshire led by infant feeding nurse Liz Smith, with the aim of supporting young people to make informed choices about feeding babies as well as having a better understanding about the barriers to breastfeeding and why community support is important.

QNIS welcomes applications from eligible community nurses from across Scotland until the deadline for submission of noon on Monday 23 September 2019.
