After speaking in a debate in Holyrood in support of the Circular Fashion economy, I was delighted to accept an invitation from CEO, Tony Burns, to visit ACS Clothing’s state-of-the-art logistics centre in Lanarkshire.
The site currently employs 150 people in their purpose-built, 85,000 square foot facility - where they provide return logistics, rental clothing and cleaning and repair work for some of the biggest names on the high street.
The UN estimates that fashion accounts for up to 10% of global carbon dioxide output - more than international flights and shipping combined. And, perhaps even more shockingly, 40% of all clothing bought online is returned, with more than half of those returns burned or sent to landfill.
The service ACS provides encourages consumers away from fast fashion and towards rental and re-use, saves fashion producers money (by preventing the needless destruction of their products) and can help Scotland’s drive towards Net Zero by making the industry far more sustainable.
