I enjoyed a visit to the McTaggart Construction site in Sharphill Road Saltcoats as part of Scottish Apprentice Week, 05-09 March.
McTaggart Construction is part of the McTaggart Group, based in Dalry in my constituency. The Group employs around 410 people, 60% of them based in Ayrshire and has around 30 male and female apprentices across all trades. Of these, seven are based at Sharphill and five were working in Saltcoats when I visited.
Companies like McTaggart have a real commitment to training and apprenticeships. It was great to meet and chat to both the apprentices and this forward looking company.
McTaggart is building 24 affordable one-to-four bedroom homes for Cunninghame Housing Association at Sharphill, which will be available for social rent. The project represents an investment of £2.8 million, including £2 million in grant from the SNP Government. These high quality new homes will be ready for occupation by August.
An apprenticeship video with Go Construct/CITB has been shared on Twitter with the handle: @McTaggartGroup, or you can watch and share it from YouTube here.
