On Sunday I attended a commemorative concert to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One, organised by Barrmill Jolly Beggars’ Burns Club and St Columba’s Church of Kilbirnie, where the concert took place.
It was a moving and thought-provoking event featuring music performed by the North Ayrshire Council Workforce Choir, Irvine and Dreghorn Band, piper Paul Sproat and organist Martin McLaughlin, with Councillor Donald L Reid as MC. Poems were read by members of Barrmill Jolly Beggars Burns Club and veterans, who also read out the names of the 159 Kilbirnie men who lost their lives in the conflict.
