As part of the Marine Conservation Society’s Beach Clean Week, Grace, Sofiia and Yannick from my office helped me litter pick on Seamill Beach.
Although the beach was cleaner than I’ve seen it in the past, unfortunately we were still able to collect three bags and fill them with all kinds of rubbish, particularly small bits of plastic and paper which are most likely to injure fish or birds.
This is unacceptable and an issue the SNP Government is committed to tackling, as part of its six-year national Litter and Fly-tipping Strategy, which, will include a more than doubling of fines for fly-tipping to £500.
