Kenneth Gibson MSP has welcomed SNP Government initiatives worth £37.2 million to help struggling families.
The funding, confirmed in statement at Holyrood, will be delivered between now and the end of March.
An additional £20 million will be made available for councils to help households tackle financial insecurity, bringing total funding to almost £47 million, while low income families whose children receive free meals in schools or in early learning and childcare settings will automatically receive a further £100 COVID Hardship Payment.
In North Ayrshire 4,816 families already received the £100 COVID Winter Hardship Payment in December paid to the parents of eligible children in primary and secondary school.
Kenneth said:
“The pandemic is placing a financial burden on many people across Scotland and this additional funding for North Ayrshire Council and other local authorities will help them to reach more people.”
“Almost 2,000 families across North Ayrshire now benefit from the SNP Government’s Scottish Child Payment of £10 per child, which began on Monday 15 February.
"This additional £100 COVID Hardship Payment will assist more than 4,800 North Ayrshire families over the next month or so and will be paid automatically, to help those who need it most.”
