Following a statement in the Scottish Parliament by Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Shirley-Anne Somerville, I asked if there was any indication from Labour that they would introduce an equivalent to the SNP Government’s Scottish Child Payment across the UK.
This would not only reduce child poverty across the UK but provide a Barnett consequential that would allow Scottish Ministers to invest more in eradicating child poverty.
Such was the importance of this matter to Labour that only two of their 22 MSPs even bothered to turn up.
The SNP had 34 MSPs in the Chamber.
