week after winning the 1997 election, Labour announced it would introduce student tuition fees, ending free higher education, having not mentioned it in their Manifesto.
The SNP abolished tuition fees in 2008, believing that education should be a right, not subject to the ability to pay.
Scottish students leave university with an average of £31,790 less debt than students in England.
Fees are now £9,250 a year in England and Wales.
The Prime Minister and his Deputy promised to abolish tuition fees whilst in office:
They have reneged on this promise.
As reported in The Times, tuition fees in England under the Labour government are expected to rise to £10,500 per year during this parliamentary term.
The pattern is clear – when Labour are in government students are punished as tuition fees go up.
By contrast the SNP is unequivocal – under no circumstances will tuition fees be imposed on our students. And it’s increasingly obvious that only the SNP can be trusted to protect free tuition.
