I was delighted to join OneKind outside the Scottish Parliament for a photo to celebrate the forth coming ban on the use of snares, a practice I have long opposed.
Evidence has demonstrated that the use of snares is cruel and an unacceptable risk to animal welfare of both target and non-target species.
With up to 72% of animals trapped in snares being non-target species, this ban will end the suffering of innumerable wild, companion and farmed animals.
The SNP Government introduced a ban on the use of snares, backed by 85 MSPs, with 30 against.
No Tory MSPs supported the ban on killing animals with a wire noose.
The ban will be enforced from this Monday, 25 November 2024.
