The SNP Government has reopened the Independent Living Fund following a debate in Holyrood yesterday on Championing Disability Equality and Human Rights, saying this is an important step towards ensuring that those with complex needs can lead independent lives.
From April 2024 £9 million of initial funding will enable up to 1,000 disabled people to lead truly independent lives.
The fund first opened in 2015, as a replacement for a UK government fund of the same name which was closed under Tory austerity measures in 2010.
The SNP Government fund currently supports around 2,000 people with a lifetime award worth around £500 per week.This is yet another example of the SNP stepping in to address the legacy of harsh Westminster austerity that has failed the Scottish people.
With cuts continuing to this day, only under the SNP can we ensure the human rights of disabled people are protected.More Information on the Fund can be found at:
