With Patricia Gibson MP I visited Social Security Scotland (SSS) to discuss how the new devolved system is bedding in.
Unlike the UK Department of Work and Pensions, which provides information on entitlements if asked, SSS is proactive. This is particularly helpful for people with little or no prior experience of the system.
Twelve SNP Government benefits, including Carer’s Allowance Supplement and Best Start Grants were increased by 10.1% on 01 April, backed by £430 million of additional funding.
The Scottish Child Payment - in the rest of the UK there is no equivalent - was increased by 150% in from £10 in April 2022 to £25 per week for each eligible child under 16.
