On Thursday I met with enthusiasts who work in Scotland’s independent cinemas.
For decades I have enjoyed seeing independent films in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Glasgow Film Theatre, which I first visited when it was Cosmo, runs Scotland’s original independent cinema and the country’s leading film festival.
2024 will mark 85 years since the Cosmo opened, 50 years since it became Glasgow Film Theatre, and the 20th edition of award-winning Glasgow Film Festival.
Scotland's independent films have made a significant impact by offering a unique and authentic representation of Scottish culture, history, and societal issues.
These films contribute to the global cinematic landscape, fostering diversity and enriching storytelling with a distinct Scottish voice that resonates beyond national borders.
Long may it continue!
