Earlier today, I asked Richard Lochhead, the Minister for Just Transition, Employment and Fair Work about the UK Government’s so-called Levelling Up Fund.
Not only does the Levelling Up Fund provide nowhere near the level of financial support Scotland gained from EU funding, but the UK Government’s failure to ‘inflation-proof’ it means it is now calculated to be worth £500 million less than when it was announced.
To add insult to injury, North Ayrshire – which has historic socio-economic challenges to address – had its bid for funding rejected, while Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s affluent constituency of Richmond was gifted £19 million.
