Finance & Public Administration Committee Debate

As Convener of the Finance and Public Administration Committee, on Thursday I opened the debate on the pre-Budget scrutiny undertaken by the Committee.

I spoke of the need for a strategic approach to growing the economy and increasing the tax base, as well as the SNP Government’s efforts to improve transparency, and the need for detailed and long-term financial planning.

I also acknowledged the SNP Government’s support for research and development, particularly in the life sciences sector and highlighted the establishment of a Cabinet sub-committee on investment and the economy as a positive step towards creating a business environment that drives investment and growth.
