Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
It was great to meet with the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Scottish SPCA) yesterday in Parliament.
The charity provides care for injured, abandoned, and mistreated animals across Scotland.
The SSPCA works to prevent cruelty through public education - encouraging responsible pet ownership and advocating for stronger animal protection laws.
Given MSPs will later today be voting on the Welfare of Dogs (Scotland) Bill, it was helpful to hear their views and their support for a ban on electronic shock collars – shared by the Dogs Trust and The Kennel Club UK among others – regarding this cruel and unnecessary method of ‘training’ dogs.
It was also interesting to hear about how the Scottish SPCA is seeking to become a more community-orientated charity and the work they are doing with mental health charities to support individuals and families in crisis.
