No Smoking Day

No Smoking Day highlights the benefits to be gained by quitting smoking.

This year’s theme is 'Quit and Win' and Action on Smoking and Health (ASH Scotland) is encouraging smokers to quit, benefiting their physical health, mental wellbeing, and personal finances.

Stopping smoking is the single most important step a smoker can take to improve health. It immediately reduces the risk of heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and dementia.

Even within hours of stopping smoking, health starts to improve. After 12 hours, the level of carbon dioxide in blood returns to normal.

A person who smokes the average amount of cigarettes a day (11.1) could also save £47 each week and £206 per month
