Post Office Transformation Plan and New Deal for Postmasters

I was pleased to host Mark Gibson of the Post Office at the Scottish Parliament to inform MSPs of their Transformation Plan and New Deal for Postmasters.

This was motivated by my debate last December calling for the retention of the Crown Post Office in Chapelwell Street, Saltcoats, and opposing closure of the Post Office’s remaining 108 public-facing directly-managed branches across the UK.

We all know how badly Postmasters were treated. They deserve substantially improved pay and improved conditions.

Branches like Saltcoats cannot become the last victims of the Horizon scandal.

I reiterated my opposition to the closure of Saltcoats’ Post Office. It’s a key resource and institution in the town as Mark Gibson agreed.

He is keen to ensure a loss that would not only sever a vital link to banking and postal facilities but deepen the challenges Saltcoats faces does not transpire.
